House 9 – Communicant Networks

Rubens Gerchman, while directing the School of Visual Arts, saw the political, artistic and pedagogical power in turning the school into a wide communicant network, decades before the advent of the internet and social, relational and economical networks. In the Contemporary Laboratory, the phenomena of social networks and its effects on ways of living and relating to people were not only discussed, reflected upon and incorporated into the poetic productions but also adopted as a communication tool. Here we share a small fragment of the virtual conversations the group had during the course.
